Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Depart School and travel to Leeds.

Start your trip with a visit to The Holocaust Exhibition and Learning Centre where you will learn about life as a Holocaust survivor through an interactive, multi-media exhibition.  Through workshops students will hear the stories of children who survived Nazi persecution and settled in the north of England.

Then spend the afternoon at Kirkstall Abbey which is one of the most complete Cistercian monasteries in Britain.  The abbey is a marvel to behold with its dramatic architecture and magnificent ruins.

Take a guided tour in the neighbouring Abbey House Museum where you will learn about life in Victorian Leeds.

Arrive and settle into your accommodation.

Spend the late afternoon discovering the story of Leeds on a self-guided tour along the Leeds Industrial Heritage Trail. You will see the legacy of Victorian times and some of the people, places and spaces that have made the city what it is today.

  2. Day 2

Begin your day uncovering buried archaeological treasures and discovering the incredible history of Leeds at the Leeds City Museum.  In addition to the exhibitions you will take part in a workshop exploring the extraordinary life of local woman, Leonora Cohen, also known as the Leeds Suffragette.

Afterwards, discover the charm of Thwaite Watermill, set on an island of its very own.  Explore this beautiful heritage site as you step back in time to learn what life was like at Thwaite House and find out how workers from the cottages lived self-sufficiently on the eco-friendly island.

    Journey back to school.

  3. Optional Day 3

Extend your trip to fit in a visit to Leeds Industrial Museum where you will learn about Leeds’s industrial heritage with collections of textile machinery, railway equipment and heavy engineering.
