Overview

Manchester is a bustling, vibrant city and this itinerary will allow you to see all the major sights.  There is a great range of museums to visit, including the Manchester Museum, housed by the University of Manchester and the Imperial War Museum North.

You will also have the opportunity to go on a BBC tour and gain a fascinating insight into how TV and radio work at one of the world’s largest broadcast organisations.  Manchester is also a great city for the sport lovers, with two world-class football teams and an internationally-renowned cricket stadium.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Depart School and travel to Manchester.

    Manchester has a number of great museums, choose from a selection of:

    The Manchester Museum, part of the University of Manchester has a collection that spans early natural history to the development of technology.  With objects like dinosaur skeletons and mummies from Ancient Egypt, the collection crosses millennia.

    The Science & Industry Museum explores how ideas can change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to the present day, with a particular focus on the city’s achievements in science.

    At the Imperial War Museum North, you can walk through a timeline of history from the First World War to the present day.  In this museum, every object, piece of art and carefully selected exhibition is designed to live long in your memory.

    Then pay a visit to the Sea Life Manchester, dive beneath the waves and come face to face with over 2000 creatures!  You’ll be able to see jellyfish and sea turtles and get amazing views from the sea bed in the Ocean Tunnel.

    Arrive and settle into your accommodation.

  2. Day 2

    Start the day with a behind-the-scenes guided tour of the BBC studios at MediaCityUK.  The well-informed and friendly tour guides will entertain and surprise you as you walk in the footsteps of your favourite stars.  Students will have the chance to see the most interesting areas available, as well as gaining a fascinating insight into how TV and radio work.

    Depending on the football fans in your group, go on a tour of either Manchester United’s Old Trafford or Manchester City’s Ethiad Stadium.  Go behind the scenes and learn about the journey from dressing room to pitch.

    Return to school.

Accommodation

We only use safe and secure accommodation especially suited to schools; providing a perfect base for you to enjoy your tour. Our schools often choose to stay at one of the YHA's hostels for our UK based trips.
