About Bergen

Bergen is the gateway to Norway’s famous fjords! With seven peaks and seven fjords of its own, it’s an unusually picturesque setting for a major city, once Norway’s capital.  Bergen’s past as a major medieval port is perfectly preserved in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bryggen, but even today’s busy city centre is just a short journey from some of the most spectacular natural wonders in Norway.

Bergen is the obvious choice for a Geography trip, being just a stone’s throw from excellent examples of glaciers, fjords, and waterfalls.  It also offers fantastic opportunities for Science students to visit a working geothermal power plant and uncover the effects of climate change at the Norwegian Nature Centre.
