Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum displays the world's largest collection by its famous native son Vincent. A few blocks away, Vermeer's Kitchen Maid, Rembrandt's Night Watch and other Golden Age treasures fill the Rijksmuseum.
The Rembrandthuis offers more of Rembrandt via his atmospheric, etching-packed studio and the Stedelijk displays Mondrian among its modern stock.
There is also the outpost of Russia's State Hermitage Museum, the Hermitage Amsterdam, which mounts impressive exhibits.
