Overview

Athens flourished as the world's most powerful city in the 5th century BC.

Heritage of the classical era is still very much in evident here, with many ancient monuments and works of art woven into the fabric of the city.  It is the perfect location to enrich your students' knowledge of Classics.

A day trip to Delphi - one of the most important archaeological sites in Greek history - is highly recommended.  Travelling with an expert guide, you'll explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town, home to the Temple of Apollo, and stroll around the Delphi Archaeological Museum.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Morning or afternoon flight to Athens.

    Then spend a relaxed evening settling into your accommodation and exploring the city.

  2. Day 2

    In the morning, enjoy a Guided tour of Athens including the Hill of the Acropolis, Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Erechthion and the Temple of Athena.

    Afterwards, visit the Acropolis Museum, a marvel of architecture with a full exhibition of the glory of Ancient Athens.

    Spend some free time in the evening taking a stroll around the Plaka district, where there are plenty of opportunities for sight-seeing and souvenir shopping!

  3. Day 3

    Today enjoy a day trip to Delphi.

    Start your day off with a guided tour of Delphi, your tour will include the key sites on the sacred slopes of Delphi: the Temple of Apollo, the ancient theatre, the stadium, the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia with the Tholos and the Kastalia spring.

    Then head over to the Delphi Archaeological Museum to get a closer look at their impressive collection of Greek artefacts.

    Round off your day with some free time in the beautiful village of Arachova, situated at the foot of Mt. Parnassós.  Before you leave Arachova, pick up some traditional spoon sweets!

    Then return back to your accommodation in Athens.

  4. Day 4

    Begin the day by discovering the Ancient Agora, the centre of political and public life in Classical Athens.

    Then visit the colossal ruin of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which was renowned as the largest temple in Ancient Greece and which housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world.

    Return flight home.
